Crafting a Fashion Statement
In every crafter there lurks a hidden fashion designer. You
can see it in the color palettes, the mix of materials, and
how the eye is encouraged to flow over the form and shape.
So invite your fellow artists, pull out all your fibers, paints
and stamps, and create an altered fashion statement.
And just what is that? It is anything you want it to be.
There is no rule for this kind of design. And that is why
it can be so much fun to create a fashion statement challenge.
The most amazing things happen. You've Arrived.... Recycle with style in this evening bag!
Inspired by those fabulous beaded bags of the
early part of the century with an updated concept and a very new
millenium twist on it. You take two of those annoyingly common cd's
and create an object of adornment and fantasy. Put anything you
want on it, it will be yours alone.
Converting commonplace items into a visual fantasy used to be
exclusively fairy godmother territory! But, unlike Cinderella's
slippers or coach, these do not change back into their mundane selves
at midnight.
A gemstone/vintage jewelry version (shown in teal with vintage
glass earrings) features a wonderful beaded wireworked ruffle, a
center disk to paint and cover. Add your own CD, jewelry finds to
make your own "bling bling" and be sure to stamp, glue, paint and
cover the CD and make it yours. Cut 2 disks to paint matching colors
and cover the hole, add seed beads to make that nice "ruffle
edge", and add a chain or ribbon.
The "charming version" (shown in green and red) takes a
different approach. Instead of using wire to hold the CDs in place,
tube beads act as spacers threaded with wire and ending
in loops. That's where the charm goes... those loops allow you to
hang colorful enameled charms of everything from butterflies to
cocktails, cats to handbags and shoes to create swing and motion.
Pick your 1 dz charm set from our charms
pages--. You also get the spacer beads. Since the exact width
of the bag is not defined, you can use ribbon, felt or vinyl to
mask the liner bottom. Recycle with style! Make a statment with
your handbag!
